March is Women’s History Month—a time to celebrate the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women across generations. As we reflect on the progress women have made in leadership, advocacy, and community building, we must also acknowledge an often-overlooked aspect of women’s well-being: mental health.
At Trinity Way CDC, we recognize that women are the backbone of families, organizations, and movements. They are caregivers, professionals, mentors, and trailblazers. However, the weight of these responsibilities often leads to burnout, stress, and emotional exhaustion. This Women’s History Month, we encourage women to not only celebrate their strength but also to prioritize their mental health.
For far too long, mental health has been a taboo subject, particularly in communities of color. Women are often expected to be the nurturers, the fixers, and the ones who hold everything together. But who nurtures the nurturer? It is time to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health and recognize that self-care is not selfish—it is essential. Seeking therapy, setting boundaries, and practicing self-care are all acts of self-preservation, not weakness.
Here are some ways women can take charge of their mental health:
Throughout history, countless women have championed mental health awareness. Activists like Audre Lorde, who spoke about self-care as an act of political resistance, and Dr. Joy DeGruy, who addresses intergenerational trauma, remind us that taking care of our mental well-being is vital to our overall success.
As we celebrate the incredible women who have paved the way for progress, let us also champion the importance of mental wellness. Women, you are more than what you produce. You are valuable, loved, and deserving of peace.
At Trinity Way CDC, we are committed to providing mental health resources, support, and education to help women thrive. This month, take a step toward prioritizing your well-being and encourage the women around you to do the same.
You are history in the making. Protect your mind, nourish your soul, and walk boldly in your purpose.
